Like many, Claire came to having her own garden quite late. After years of growing on balconies and windowsills, she finally got a garden in her mid-thirties. Since then, her interests and practice have grown beyond my small city space and on to a large allotment plot.
Claire's gardening methods focus on organic systems for soil improvement and plant propagation. Now a seasoned organic gardener, she continues to combine new and old approaches, and she always looks forward to the next set of seasons to learn and grow more.
Her influences include CH Middleton, the original Victory Gardener, for his commitment to year-round gardening and Christopher Lloyd, the great English Gardener who challenged us all to be adventurous gardeners with his wonderful plant suggestions.
Phyllis Zerkle is an avid gardener with more than 25 years of gardening experience. She has taken classes in horticulture and is pursuing her master gardening certificate from her home state of North Carolina.
Each year on her 1 ½ acre property she grows a variety of herbs, vegetables and flowers. Her favorites are rosemary, peonies and anything that climbs. She writes frequently about gardening and cooking.
Ms. Jacobson has been an organic gardener for over 15 years. Her current organic garden includes several types of flowers, vegetables such as Brussels sprouts, cauliflower and purple sprouting broccoli and an orchard comprised of pears, apples and cherries.
E's favorite crops to grow include asparagus, multiple varieties of salad leaves and parsnip. She also makes her own compost and is a dedicated recycler.
